Best alternatives to cmmnts in 2026
Adding real reader comments to a blog or docs site usually means either signing up for a third-party service that tracks your visitors, or building your own comment system from scratch — both bigger commitments than the feature deserves. cmmnts is built to be the middle option: an open-source comment widget you drop into a page with one script tag. It supports threaded conversations, real-time updates, and basic moderation controls, aiming to match what larger commercial platforms like Disqus offer without the tracking or the lock-in that comes with a closed-source hosted service. Being open source, you can self-host it if you want full control over the data, though that means managing the hosting yourself.
