Services like UptimeRobot or Pingdom will happily watch your website for you — for a monthly fee, and by routing your uptime data through their servers. Lunalytics is the alternative you run yourself: a small app on your own infrastructure that pings your services on a schedule and tells you, and only you, the moment something goes down. Think of it as swapping a subscription security guard for your own doorbell camera.
Lunalytics is an open-source (AGPL v3) monitoring tool built with Node.js and React. It checks HTTP(S) endpoints, TCP ports, ping, JSON-query responses, push-based heartbeats, and Docker containers, and turns the results into customizable dashboards and public status pages. It supports multi-user access with role-based permissions and SSO (Discord, Google, GitHub, Slack, Twitch, or custom OIDC), plus notification integrations covering Discord, Slack, Telegram, Email/SMTP, Pushover, Home Assistant, Webhooks, and Apprise. The short version: if Uptime Kuma is the household name in self-hosted uptime monitoring, Lunalytics is the newer challenger with a more modern React UI and built-in multi-user/SSO support out of the box — worth a look if you outgrew Kuma's single-admin simplicity, but it's a younger, smaller project so expect some rough edges.
Where Lunalytics differentiates itself from Uptime Kuma is team features: role-based access control and SSO across five providers are built in rather than bolted on, which matters the moment more than one person needs access to your monitoring. The monitor types (HTTP, TCP, ping, JSON query, Docker, push) cover the common cases, and the notification integration list is broad enough that most teams' existing chat tool is supported.
The honest limits: at 736 stars and roughly two years old, it has real usage but nowhere near Uptime Kuma's maturity (60k+ stars) or plugin ecosystem, and the project explicitly describes itself as still in beta — check the changelog before trusting it with anything business-critical. Like any self-hosted tool, you're also on the hook for your own backups, updates, and uptime of the monitor itself.
