Description
Keeping a codebase healthy means a steady drip of unglamorous chores — updating dependencies, chasing flaky tests, writing changelogs, running security audits — that everyone means to automate and nobody quite gets around to. Clockwork turns those chores into calendar bookings: you pick a task, a repository, a budget, and a recurrence pattern, and an AI agent runs the job on schedule in an isolated sandbox, then hands you a readable report instead of quietly making changes you didn't ask for.
Clockwork is a macOS application (Apple silicon, macOS 14+) that runs 13 built-in specialist agent profiles — Dep Surgeon, Test Doctor, Bug Hunter, Security Auditor, Docs Scribe, and others — or custom profiles you define, on top of your choice of LLM (Claude, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Mistral, DeepSeek, or a custom endpoint). Each run executes in a fresh, isolated git worktree inside a macOS Seatbelt sandbox with a deny-list covering `.ssh`, `.aws` and `.gnupg`, plus hard dollar caps, turn limits and timeouts enforced by a supervisor — and everything stays local with zero cloud dependency. Scheduling supports full RRULE/cron recurrence with timezone handling, results land as searchable transcripts in a local SQLite database with cost tracking, and notifications can go to Telegram, Slack, Discord or ntfy. It's currently at version 0.4.0 (beta), source-available under Apache 2.0 for its components, unsigned/not Apple-notarized yet, with paid Pro and Teams tiers built but not yet priced or purchasable — only the free personal tier (30-day history, two triggers) is currently available.

Against general workflow tools like GitHub Actions or Zapier, Clockwork's differentiator is that it's purpose-built for AI coding agents specifically — sandboxing, cost caps and repo-aware scheduling that a generic automation platform doesn't offer out of the box, and it runs entirely on your Mac rather than routing your code through a cloud pipeline. The catch is maturity: this is a 0.4.0 beta from a single visible maintainer, the build isn't notarized (expect a Gatekeeper warning on install), and the Pro/Teams tiers that would unlock unlimited triggers and longer history aren't purchasable yet, so anyone with serious automation needs will hit the free tier's ceiling (two triggers, 30-day history) quickly.
