Playcall
Free, open-source call intelligence platform that scores sales reps against your own playbook and gives evidence-based coaching - a self-hostable alternative to Gong.

Imagine every sales call your team makes gets reviewed by a coach who never gets tired, knows your exact sales playbook by heart, and tells each rep precisely where a deal was won or lost - instead of generic tips like "speak more confidently." That's what Playcall does: it listens to (or reads transcripts of) your sales calls and scores each rep against your own methodology, whether that's MEDDPICC, BANT, SPIN, or a custom playbook you define. It's built as a free, open alternative to expensive commercial software like Gong, so a company willing to run it on its own servers can get similar coaching insights without the enterprise invoice.
Under the hood, Playcall is an open-source, MIT-licensed call intelligence platform designed to be deployed on the user's own infrastructure rather than a locked-in SaaS cloud. It supports multiple LLM backends - OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, and Together AI - so teams can pick a provider that matches their budget, latency, or data-privacy requirements. Core mechanics include rep-level adherence scoring backed by call evidence, loss-reason analysis grounded in the actual dialogue rather than guesswork, objection-pattern detection across calls, and buyer-aware scoring that adjusts for company stage and contact role. The code is public on GitHub (Dphenomenal101/playcall), the project ships deployment instructions, and it launched on Product Hunt with active maintenance.
💬 Our review
The short version: Playcall is a genuinely compelling free alternative to Gong-style call intelligence if you have engineers willing to self-host and tune it, but it's a young project and not yet a drop-in replacement for the polish, integrations, and support of established commercial tools.
Gong is the category leader but is notoriously expensive - contracts commonly run into the thousands of dollars per rep per year - cloud-only, and its scoring logic is a black box you can't inspect or modify. Chorus.ai (now folded into ZoomInfo) and Wingman occupy a similar bracket: capable conversation intelligence, but proprietary, subscription-priced, and not self-hostable. Playcall's pitch cuts straight against that: the same core value - evidence-based coaching tied to your own sales methodology - for zero license cost, running on infrastructure you control, with the freedom to swap LLM providers as pricing or privacy needs change. For a startup or mid-size sales org with in-house engineering capacity, that's a real, substantial saving. The tradeoff is maturity: this is a young open-source project without years of enterprise hardening, without visible native integrations to common dialers, CRMs, or calendar systems, and without a vendor on the hook if something breaks during a busy quarter. You're trading a support contract for full control - a fair trade for technical teams, a risky one for sales orgs that just want it to work out of the box.
