Description

Most event check-in tools quietly turn your guest list into someone else's database — a ticketing platform that takes a cut of every ticket and keeps a copy of who's coming to your event. GateProof takes the opposite approach: you create passes, scan them at the door, and everything happens on your own phone or iPad, with no subscription, no percentage fee, and no internet connection required.

Technically, it's a native iOS/iPadOS/macOS app that generates cryptographically signed passes, verifies them locally at the door (with a clear VALID / ALREADY USED / INVALID result), and can optionally sync over Wi-Fi between multiple devices for events with several entrances — all without a server round-trip. Guests receive their pass as a plain QR code (PDF or image), so they don't need to install anything. Instead of subscriptions, GateProof uses a credit system: you buy credits through the App Store and a credit is spent only when a pass is first activated, with no recurring or per-ticket percentage fees.

💬 Our review

The short version: a genuinely privacy-respecting alternative to mainstream ticketing platforms for anyone who just needs reliable door check-in without handing over their guest list — the catch is it's iOS-only and doesn't do the marketing/sales side a ticketing platform normally handles.

The offline-first, credit-not-percentage pricing model is the real selling point: for corporate events, VIP gatherings, or anything in a regulated or privacy-sensitive context (legal, medical, nonprofit), not shipping your attendee list to a third party is a legitimate concern that GateProof directly addresses, and paying per activated pass instead of a monthly fee or ticket cut is friendlier for occasional organizers. It's not a fit for anyone who needs public ticket sales, payment processing, or marketing tools baked in — for that, a full ticketing platform (which GateProof deliberately isn't) remains the better choice despite the data trade-off.
