It connects to Docker Desktop, Podman, Colima, OrbStack, or Rancher Desktop — including multiple engines at once — and supports remote Docker hosts over an encrypted TCP/TLS connection, with credentials stored at the OS level rather than in a plaintext config file. It's free and open source, with an optional pay-what-you-want donation model, and its public roadmap lists Docker Swarm and Kubernetes support as next steps.

The short version: if you use Docker daily and are tired of typing docker ps, docker logs -f, and friends, Dockev gives you a native, fast desktop UI for free without pushing you toward a paid tier.
Against Docker Desktop itself — which bundles a GUI but is a much heavier resource hog and, for organizations above a certain size, requires a paid subscription — Dockev's lightweight Tauri/Rust foundation and genuinely free model are real advantages. Against Portainer, which is more mature and adds team/RBAC features for shared environments, Dockev is simpler and clearly aimed at a single developer's local and remote setups rather than a team-managed fleet. The multi-engine support (Podman, Colima, OrbStack alongside Docker Desktop) is a thoughtful touch for anyone who's moved off Docker Desktop for licensing reasons. Swarm and Kubernetes support are still on the roadmap, not shipped, so if you need those today, look elsewhere for now. Solid pick for individual developers and small teams on a budget; not yet a fit for organizations needing shared multi-user container management.
