Description

If you run a marketplace, platform, or creator payout system, you've probably run into Stripe Connect's fee structure — a flat monthly fee per active seller account, plus percentage cuts, plus currency conversion charges that add up fast once you have hundreds or thousands of payees, especially in countries Stripe doesn't fully support. Zoneless exists to route around that: instead of moving money through the traditional banking rails Stripe relies on, it settles payouts using USDC stablecoins, which lets it reach far more countries at a cost close to zero per transaction.

Technically, Zoneless offers a Stripe-compatible API, so switching over doesn't mean rebuilding your payout integration from scratch. It's open source under Apache 2.0 and fully self-hostable if you want to run it on your own infrastructure, or you can use the managed Cloud version, which starts free for up to 1,000 payouts a month and scales to Pro ($99/month, 10,000 payouts) and Scale ($499/month, 100,000 payouts) tiers. It includes built-in KYC verification for sellers, instant payout speeds, and no cross-border or currency conversion fees regardless of where a payee is located — each payout costs roughly $0.002 whether domestic or international.

💬 Our review

The short version: for a marketplace paying out to sellers in dozens of countries, Zoneless's stablecoin-based rails can cut payout costs dramatically compared to Stripe Connect, and the Stripe-compatible API makes switching less painful than it sounds. The self-hosted, Apache 2.0 open-source option is the real differentiator for anyone wary of platform lock-in or who wants full control of the payout infrastructure.

The catch is that paying sellers in stablecoins rather than local currency introduces a layer most payout recipients aren't used to — sellers need a way to receive and eventually convert USDC, which can be a friction point in markets where crypto rails aren't yet familiar or trusted, even if Zoneless itself doesn't charge extra for it. Compared to Stripe Connect, which handles the entire experience end-to-end including familiar bank deposits, Zoneless trades some of that seller-side simplicity for dramatically lower platform-side costs. It's the right tradeoff for cost-sensitive marketplaces operating at global scale; it's a harder sell if your sellers strongly expect a traditional bank payout experience.
