Most coding tools are built for one persona: an IDE for programmers, a design tool for designers, with a slow handoff process in between. Shape tries to close that gap by combining a fast code editor with a live, visually-editable preview of the running app, so changing a button's spacing can be a drag-and-drop action instead of a round trip through a design file and a pull request.
Under the hood it's a full IDE with deep Git integration and a built-in AI agent for coding tasks, with first-class Tailwind CSS support baked in — a natural fit given how much of modern web styling happens through Tailwind's utility classes rather than separate stylesheets.

Compared to a Cursor-or-Copilot-plus-Figma workflow — the current default of an AI coding editor paired with a separate design tool — Shape's bet is that keeping code and visual editing in the same surface removes translation loss between the two, rather than just making each half faster independently.
