Description

Larger icon libraries can feel inconsistent because icons get added over time by many contributors with different styles. Iconimate takes the opposite approach: a deliberately small, hand-built catalog — 212 icons — designed around one coherent principle the maintainer states directly: "every motion has a reason, nothing moves without meaning."

The icons are based on the Phosphor design system for visual consistency, optimized specifically for 24px display, and installable individually through the shadcn CLI registry rather than as one large package. It includes a command-palette (⌘K) search to find icons quickly, offers several animation styles (bounce, spin, pulse, drift and others), triggered on hover or focus, and is built on Next.js 16, React 19, motion.dev and Tailwind CSS v4 with minimal dependencies. It's MIT licensed and aimed at developers who'd rather have a smaller, curated icon set than sift through thousands of inconsistent ones.

💬 Our review

The short version: Iconimate's smallest-of-the-pack catalog (212 icons, versus 500-1,300+ for the other animated-icon libraries turned up in this same discovery pass) is a deliberate tradeoff for consistency — every icon shares a design system (Phosphor) and a stated animation philosophy, which genuinely shows in how coherent a UI built entirely from it would look.

The obvious risk is coverage: with 212 icons you'll likely hit gaps a bigger library like Lineicons or LivelyIcons wouldn't, and it's a young project (41 GitHub stars) with a shorter track record than some alternatives. It's free either way, so there's no financial downside to trying it. Worth using if visual coherence matters more than raw icon count for your product, especially if you're already on the shadcn registry workflow; if you need broad coverage across many domains, pair it with or swap to a larger set.
